"De Groninger alt saxofonist Jaap van der Meere heeft een langdurige affaire met de muziek van Charlie Parker.

Zijn oorspronkelijke voorliefde voor de hele snelle, uptempo Parkerstukken lijkt bekoeld
wanneer hij in het slagwerkloze trio met gitarist Winfred Buma en bassist Bert van Erk muziek maakt.

In ballads krijgt de saxofonist de ruimte om zijn gevoel te laten spreken en valt alles op zijn plaats.

Je kan horen dat Winfred Buma nog steeds naar
Wes Montgomery platen luistert en

Bert van Erk improviseert op de melodie zoals
Scott LaFaro dat deed.

En Jaap van de Meere? Die klinkt tegenwoordig ja net als
Art Pepper."

Alto Jaap van der Meere (living in the city of Groningen, The Netherlands)
has a long lasting affair with the music of Charlie Parker.
But his appetite for up tempo’s seems to melt when joining his trio with
Winfred Buma on guitar and Bert van Erk on doublebass.
In ballads the sax finds its space to get feelings right on its place.
Winfred Buma sounds like good old Wes Mongomery.
Bert van Erk improvises like Scott Lafaro. And Jaap brings Art Pepper alive.
